Regular Carpet cleaning makes carpet last for years by Jim Corkern

In this article we will cover some little known facts about wear and tear on carpet that the average person is not aware of and how these factors shorten the life of your carpet and upholstery.
Some may think that dirt only causes unsightly looks and odors but there is damage from this dirt and sand that causes your carpet and upholstery to wear at an advanced rate and cuts the life of your carpet costing you thousands of dollars prematurely.
Dirt and sand are basically made of small granules and rock and other debris. Once this gets into the nap and foundation of your carpet and upholstery it acts just like sand paper. Every time someone sits, or stands on the fabric or fibers it is shredding the total of it at an advanced rate and destroys the fibers, this is what gives the matted look and the frayed fibers look worn and flat.
This can also cause color loss because every time you vacuum you are sucking up the lose or cut fibers, therefore dulling the color in appearance because you are losing a large portion of the fiber material.
The longer you leave this material in the carpet or mat, the more damage it causes and the faster it wears out.
Vacuuming on a regular basis is a good way to slow this process down but there is a large quantity of the soil that most vacuums miss and it takes commercial powered equipment to remove the majority of this.
If you vacuum 3 times a week you would still need to have the carpet professionally cleaned on a quarterly basis to reduce the wear and tear on your carpet.
You may not need to get low traffic rooms cleaned as often but hallways and other high traffic areas need to get a professional cleaning on a regular basis for maximum life of your carpet.
Low traffic areas should get a professional cleaning at least once a year and preferably every 6 months. This will help keep the dirt, debris and sand that destroys a carpet so quickly out of your carpet and you will get years of service from your carpets while keeping it looking fresh and new.
